Silverseashells creates a range of beautiful and bespoke jewellery, made from real shells, leaves and feathers, which have been coated with a layer of pure silver through the process of electro-forming.

The concept of silver plated seashells first began to emerge in the 1930s, but when jewellers Jinx McGrath and Jo Swan were let down by a silver-plating outfit, they decided they could do a much better job of it themselves. Silverseashells was born in 1993, and has been going strong ever since.

Jinx moved on from the business after a few years, and workshop assistant Mel Markham took her place. Later, when Jo made his departure in 2005, Mel continued to run the business with the help of workshop assistant Jules Asch, a former out-worker.

Jules bought the business from Mel in early 2009, and has since been fortunate enough to gather a fantastic team to run the business with her in the form of Sharon Reid, Kate Wheeler, Susie Cram, Pearl Bates and Charlotte Hodgkins.

Tucked away in the pretty East Sussex town of Lewes, Silverseashells continues to supply to outlets around the country as well as farther afield.

Silverseashells are careful to ensure that all of their raw shells have been sourced in compliance with environmental guidelines. All are classed as either 'common', or 'abundant', and are from sustainable sources. Many are by-products of the food industry.
