********Very Important********
Unfortunately, plating being the complex process that it is, we
cannot give a 100% guarantee that your item will be successful.
There are many variable factors that may affect the finished item.
A shell may be particularly thin and brittle, or covered in a crusty
layer of calcium build-up in places; a leaf may have a layer of
fine 'hairs' on its surface; a feather may be too 'fluffy' (the
smoother, sleeker and firmer a feather is the better chance it has
of plating successfully and showing sufficient detail). All of these
things can affect the quality of the over-all finish. We may be
able to advise you during an initial telephone consultation as to
whether an item is likely to be unsuitable, but usually we like
to see it before making a decision. We can give you an approximate
quote over the phone but will give you a final quote on receipt
of the item.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of the amount of time and the volume
of quality materials that goes into our plating process, we do still
have to charge you a fee, even if the plating is not successful.
This will be a partial amount of the full quote and you will be
advised of what this will be before you decide whether to go ahead.
We do have an excellent success rate - we can actually only remember
one commissioned shell not 'making it'! - BUT - we know that when
we are doing personal commissions we are dealing with people's treasured
keepsakes and memories, so we want to be sure that you understand
that whilst we do everything we can to make sure your item is successfully
plated, it is possible for circumstances beyond our control to affect
the process. If we have any serious doubts as to the feasibility
of an item we will always decline the commission.
